Abby Connect costs $164 a month for 50 Abby Minutes up to $1,380 for 500, and one account can be answered by people, by AI, or both. At about 80 calls a month that’s $599 with people on every call, or $329 if the AI takes them all. PATLive does the human version for $349, and AI receptionists such as Upfirst, Goodcall, Dialzara and Stack Space cost $60 to $125. Below: Abby’s published prices, six things in its terms to know before you switch, and the alternatives side by side as of October 2026.

An Abby Minute is one minute of a person answering or two minutes of its AI answering. On a call that starts with the AI and moves to a person, each part bills at its own rate. So the 100-minute Essential plan covers 100 minutes of people or 200 minutes of AI.

What’s included is good: English and Spanish answering, call recordings, a dedicated team, HIPAA on human calls, and no setup fee or long-term contract. Its AI books into Google Calendar. A separate Scheduling Assistant add-on for outbound booking calls is priced on top, and its price isn’t published.

Six things in Abby Connect’s terms to know

  1. Ring time is billed. A call’s billable time “includes ring time, talk time, and transfer time” (hold time excluded), and each call is then rounded up to the next 30 seconds. A 35-second call counts as a full minute.
  2. Thirty days’ notice to cancel. After your first 30 days, you must give at least 30 days’ notice, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle in which that notice runs out. There’s no proration, and overage from your last month can be billed after you leave.
  3. No refunds after the first 22 days. Abby has “a strict no refund policy,” apart from a 22-day money-back guarantee for new clients on their first purchase.
  4. A number Abby gives you stays Abby’s. You can port it out only with an account in good standing and after you’ve had it for more than 30 days. (If Abby answers your own forwarded number, you just change the forwarding.)
  5. Heavy months can change your plan. Go over 1,000 Abby Minutes in a billing period and Abby “may automatically upgrade you” to a custom Enterprise plan.
  6. Check who answers overnight. The pricing page says 24/7, but the terms give standard human hours as 5am to 9pm Pacific on weekdays and 6am to 6pm on weekends, with AI answering 24/7. If you want a person at 2am, ask whether your account is set up for it.

The 14-day trial needs a card and turns into a paid plan unless you email a cancellation at least 24 hours before it ends.

What do reviewers say about Abby Connect?

Mostly good things about the people. Abby holds 4.5 from 34 reviews on Trustpilot and 4.8 from 83 on Clutch, and many reviews thank receptionists by name. Three of its four one-star reviews are about billing: being charged for ring time and spam calls, the wrong amount after a plan change, and charges after asking to cancel. The first of those matches the ring-time rule in its own terms.

Hear the receptionist take a real call — it rings your phone in about a minute.

A worked month: 80 calls, about 200 minutes

At about two and a half minutes a call, 80 calls is roughly 200 minutes. Here’s that month at published prices:

Option How it adds up About
Upfirst The 90-call plan $60
Goodcall Under 100 different callers $79
Dialzara The 220-minute plan $99
Stack Space Starter 250 minutes included $125
Rosie Calendar booking needs the $149 plan $149
Smith.ai AI Pro 75 calls + 5 × $2.50 about $163
Abby Connect, all AI 200 AI minutes = 100 Abby Minutes (Essential) $329
PATLive The 200-minute plan $349
AnswerConnect The 200-minute plan, plus setup $350 + $49.99
Moneypenny people The 200-minute plan $422
Abby Connect, all people The 200-minute plan (Professional) $599
Ruby The 200-minute plan $720

These figures assume talk time only. Every minute-billed service rounds each call up: Abby to the next 30 seconds, and Stack Space to the next whole minute, so 80 calls of two and a half minutes meter about 240 minutes, still inside the 250. Abby also counts ring time, so your real Abby Minutes will run higher than your talk time. Dialzara’s 220 minutes could run short.

Human, AI, or Abby’s own AI: which should replace it?

Stay with people if your calls are emotional, negotiated or high-stakes, or need HIPAA-covered human answering. Abby’s real strength is people and AI on one account, with a hand-off on the same call, and its reviews back up its receptionists. If you want people for less, PATLive’s published prices are lower at 50, 100, 200 and 500 minutes.

Move to an AI receptionist if most calls are routine: “are you open,” “how much for,” “can you come Tuesday.” Abby’s own AI halves the minute cost, but at $329 for 200 AI minutes it still costs more than a standalone AI receptionist. Check how each one counts usage: minutes (often rounded up per call, ours included), calls, or unique callers.

Where Stack Space fits: it’s the AI receptionist built into a CRM. The receptionist Stax trains answers your line 24/7 within your plan’s minutes, books onto the calendar built into Stack Space (Outlook sync available), moves or cancels an existing appointment while the caller is on the phone, and texts the confirmation, emailing it too when it has the address. After the call, the recap and transcript are on the contact, and the estimate, invoice and review request go out from the same place. Plans are $125 (250 minutes), $355 (900) and $800 (1,500); past your minutes you buy prepaid packs that never expire, or the receptionist pauses until your next cycle rather than billing more. There’s no free trial; you pay monthly and cancel yourself. If you only want calls answered, Upfirst and Goodcall cost less.

How to switch from Abby Connect

  1. Check which number your customers call. If Abby provided it, port it while your account is in good standing and before you cancel.
  2. Give notice in writing early. Thirty days’ notice, taking effect at the end of a billing cycle, can mean paying for one more full cycle after the current one, so send it as soon as you decide.
  3. Run the new service alongside Abby for a week by forwarding overflow to it, and read every transcript.
  4. Move your scripts across: services, prices, service area, emergency rules and who gets transferred.
  5. Switch your forwarding. Our guide to forwarding calls to an AI receptionist covers the carrier codes.
