PATLive alternatives in 2026: what you pay and what to switch to

PATLive costs $99 a month for 50 minutes up to $6,899 for 5,000. What its terms say about billing and your number, and the human and AI alternatives priced.

Hear the AI receptionist answer a real call — 60 seconds →

PATLive is a 100% human answering service at $99 a month for 50 minutes up to $1,499 for 1,000, with Spanish, nights and appointment scheduling included. Among human services with published prices, PATLive is the cheapest per minute; Abby Connect and Moneypenny add AI options, and Ruby costs more. If you’d rather have an AI answer, Goodcall, Beside, Smith.ai’s AI plan and Stack Space run from about $79 to $165 a month at 80 calls. Below: PATLive’s published prices, four things in its terms worth knowing before you switch, and the alternatives side by side as of October 2026.

What does PATLive cost?

From PATLive’s pricing page:

Plan Monthly Extra minutes PATLive’s estimate
Pay as you go $49 $2.99 each
50 minutes $99 $2.29 about 20 calls
100 minutes $189 $2.09 about 40 calls
200 minutes $349 $1.99 about 80 calls
300 minutes $479 $1.89 about 120 calls
500 minutes $759 $1.79 about 200 calls
1,000 minutes $1,499 $1.69 about 400 calls

Larger plans run up to 5,000 minutes for $6,899 ($1.49 extra).

What’s included is genuinely good. Every plan lists 24/7 answering by US receptionists, call recordings, transfers, appointment scheduling and emergency dispatch, and the page says there are no bilingual fees, no night or weekend fees, and no charge for after-call notes. PATLive also says plainly that it doesn’t use AI: “No AI answering” on the pricing page, and “100% human (no AI)” on its Why PATLive page. There’s a 14-day free trial and no contract.

Four things in PATLive’s terms to know

None of these is unusual for the industry, but each one changes your real bill or your switch:

  1. The first minute of every call is billed in full, then six-second increments, per its FAQ. A 20-second wrong number costs a full minute, and unused package minutes don’t roll over.
  2. Hold time counts. Its terms of use say that if a receptionist puts a caller on hold to look something up or try a transfer, “this time will be included in the billable minute.” Time a caller waits in the queue for a receptionist isn’t billed.
  3. Fees beyond the plan are possible. The pricing page says “No PATLive fees,” but the terms allow “a cost recovery fee and/or a Subscriber and Compliance Fee” on invoices with voice charges, plus taxes.
  4. Port your number before you cancel. The terms say any phone numbers left on the account after cancellation “become property of PATLive.” If customers know a PATLive-provided number, move it to your new provider first. (If PATLive answers your own forwarded number, you just change the forwarding.)

The trial also needs a card and, per the terms, “will automatically convert to a paid account.”

Hear the receptionist take a real call — it rings your phone in about a minute.

A worked month: 80 calls, about 200 minutes

PATLive’s own estimate puts 200 minutes at about 80 calls. Here’s that month at published prices:

Option How it adds up About
Goodcall Starter Under 100 different callers $79
Beside Unlimited Flat $99
Stack Space Starter 250 minutes included $125
Rosie Scale Calendar booking needs this plan $149
Smith.ai AI Pro 75 calls + 5 × $2.50 about $163
Moneypenny AI 50 calls at $99 + 30 × $2.39 about $171
PATLive The 200-minute plan $349
Moneypenny people The 200-minute plan $422
Abby Connect The 200-minute plan $599
Ruby The 200-minute plan $720
Smith.ai receptionists The 90-call plan, plus booking at $1.50 a call about $930

So among human services, PATLive is the cheapest of the published prices at this volume, and its inclusions (Spanish, nights, scheduling) are generous. The AI options cost a fraction of it. What you’re choosing is whether a person or an AI picks up.

Human or AI: which should replace PATLive?

Stay with a human service if your calls are emotional, negotiated or high-stakes (legal intake, medical-adjacent, an upset customer about a bill), or if you simply want a person on every call. PATLive is hard to beat on price among them; Abby and Moneypenny are worth comparing if you want AI and humans from one vendor.

Move to an AI receptionist if most calls are routine: “are you open,” “how much for,” “can you come Tuesday.” An AI receptionist costs a fraction of a person per call and books straight onto a calendar. Check how each one counts usage: minutes (often rounded up per call, ours included), calls, or unique callers.

Where Stack Space fits: it’s the AI receptionist built into a CRM. The receptionist Stax trains answers your line 24/7 within your plan’s minutes, books onto the calendar built into Stack Space (Outlook sync available), moves or cancels an existing appointment while the caller is on the phone, and emails the confirmation. After the call, the recap and transcript are on the contact, and the estimate, invoice and review request go out from the same place. Plans are $30 (45 minutes), $125 (250) and $355 (900); past your minutes you buy prepaid packs that never expire, or the receptionist pauses until your next cycle rather than billing more. There’s no free trial; you pay monthly and cancel yourself. If you only want answering, Goodcall and Beside cost less, and Smith.ai’s free AI plan covers 25 calls.

How to switch from PATLive

  1. Check which number your customers call. If it’s a number PATLive provided, port it to your new provider before you cancel.
  2. Run the new service for a week alongside PATLive by forwarding overflow to it, and read every transcript or message.
  3. Move your scripts across: services, prices, service area, emergency rules, and who gets transferred.
  4. Switch your forwarding, then cancel PATLive in writing. Our guide to forwarding calls to an AI receptionist covers the carrier codes.

What’s cheaper than PATLive?

What are common PATLive complaints?

Its reviews are mostly positive, and most praise its receptionists by name. The issues worth checking are billing ones from its own terms: the full first minute, billed hold time and possible extra fees.
